Before you go
First-Time Snorkeling in Aruba: Prepare for Your Private Tour
Your first snorkeling experience does not need to begin with pretending you already know how everything works. It can begin with a clear conversation: how you feel in the water, what you have tried before, and what would help you enjoy the outing. A private tour gives your own group time and attention, while thoughtful preparation helps everyone arrive with more realistic, useful expectations.

Describe your confidence before choosing a date
Beginner can describe several very different starting points. You may be a confident swimmer who has never used a mask. You may enjoy shallow water but feel unsure about looking below the surface. Or someone in your group may want to participate while needing a much more detailed discussion of what the activity involves. Tell us which situation sounds like yours.
Share this before booking rather than saving the conversation for the beach. Mention the questions that matter to you: equipment, shore entry, flotation support, or how the group will stay together. Our tour includes guidance and flotation devices, but suitability should be discussed for the actual people taking part. An encouraging description is not a substitute for understanding your party.
You can send a short description instead of trying to select the perfect category. Specific examples make the conversation easier.
Give equipment fitting your full attention
Turtle Snorkeling Tours Aruba provides a mask, snorkel, fins, and flotation support. Please arrive 10 minutes early so that equipment fitting and the short briefing have their own space in the visit. This is an opportunity to say if something feels awkward, ask how an item works, and make sure you understand your guide’s instructions before continuing.
You do not have to treat questions as an interruption. If you are unsure what you have been shown, ask for another explanation. If a piece of equipment does not feel right, speak up. Preparing the gear is part of the experience, rather than a task to hurry through while everyone is already thinking about the first underwater photograph.
Plan a relaxed arrival at Boca Catalina
Our tour meets at Boca Catalina Beach and enters from shore. You will receive the exact map pin, parking landmark, and guide contact before the outing. Hotel transportation is not included. Read the meeting message in advance and make your journey part of the plan, instead of expecting that an online booking automatically includes collection from your accommodation.
The Aruba Tourism Authority describes beach access by steps from roadside parking. If access is a concern for anyone in your group, discuss it with us beforehand. Keep what you bring easy to manage. Aim to arrive ready for the beach, with enough time to identify your guide and settle in rather than rushing directly from a car into a new activity.
Pack the personal essentials, not extra pressure
Swimwear, a towel, drinking water, and sun protection are useful basics for your visit. Think about what will make the time before and after the water comfortable for your party. Equipment for the activity is provided, so there is no need to arrive with a newly purchased set of everything simply because it is your first snorkeling tour.
Leave room in your plans around the experience, which is described as about 75 minutes. A tightly packed morning can make every small question feel like a delay. You will also have wet belongings afterwards, so consider what happens next: returning to your accommodation, changing, or continuing your day. These ordinary details can make the outing feel much easier to organize.
For families, prepare each person separately
A family can share a booking while having very different levels of confidence. Ask each person what they are looking forward to and what they are uncertain about. For children, describe the plan in simple terms: meeting the guide, trying equipment, listening to instructions, and looking at marine life. Avoid making a particular wildlife encounter a test of whether the day was successful.
Tell us about the group before you book, including anyone who needs extra reassurance or a discussion about swimming confidence. The private format means your own party participates, with guidance focused on you. It does not mean every child or every person who cannot swim will automatically be suited to the activity. A useful plan respects each person’s comfort and the conditions on the day.
Practise being an observer, not a collector of photographs
It is natural to hope for a memorable turtle moment. Aruba’s tourism authority asks visitors to keep their distance and not chase, touch, or feed turtles. Explain that approach to your family before arriving. In the water, listen to your guide and enjoy what is happening around you, rather than trying to arrange the wildlife into a picture you have already imagined.
A personal edited video is included in our tour, so recording the experience does not have to become another new skill for you to manage. The guide captures moments from your outing. Focus on understanding the instructions, communicating how you feel, and enjoying the time with your group. Check the current booking calendar for departures and follow the details in your confirmation.
A few common questions
Do I need previous snorkeling experience?
First-time snorkelers can discuss a tour with us. Tell us about your swimming confidence and any concerns before booking so that we can discuss the experience with your actual group in mind.
Can someone who cannot swim join?
Please contact us before booking and explain their comfort and ability in the water. Flotation support is available, but it should not be treated as automatic approval for every participant.
Will we have to take our own underwater video?
No. A personal edited video is included. Your guide records moments from the tour and can explain the delivery timing afterwards.
